The 50 Yard Line - RadnorSeptember 12, 2007
When you think you've got a good team it is always tough to take a loss. Most Panther fans went into last Friday night's game against Ridley thinking that the Green Raiders would be decimated from their loss of players (returning only four starters). When a team is very good it is always possible that those guys who are second on the depth chart could also be outstanding ballplayers. That certainly is the case with the Raiders. With no games played Ridley came into George L, King Field and controlled every aspect of the game. Try as they might the Panthers couldn't get started on offense and never found the key to stop Ridley on defense. It is a problem that most teams in the Central League will find themselves in. The good news is that the game served as a wake-up call to the Panther offensive and defensive lines. If they can't control the line of scrimmage all the speed and talent in the backfield is worthless.
This week the Panthers have their first "away" game traveling to Radnor. Radnor is coming off a win in an overtime game against Springfield. They also beat Haverford School in their first week of action so the Red Raiders are 2-0 for the year.
In past years Radnor has been known to run a lot of option plays but this year they seem to have a passing game that accounts for a lot of yards.
Haven is going to have to slow down the Red Raiders and put some pressure on their QB if they expect to minimize the passing game. Defensive line containment is critical against teams who run an option. Lineman must maintain their positions and not get "sucked" into a play. The Panther offensive line is going to have to re-establish itself if Haven's running game is to be successful.
In spite of the difficult game against Ridley last week we were very impressed with QB McCann. His arm is strong and he was able to move around the pocket. We hope to see McCann in more passing situations in the future.
Kickoff is at 7:30 PM at Prevost Field in Radnor. If you can't make the game you can always catch it LIVE on the Internet right here!
