The Fifty Yard Line - RidleySeptember 3, 2007
The Panthers opened their season last Friday night with a flare by beating Sun Valley 42-8. No doubt there was a little revenge thrown among the powerful rushing and dramatic speed that was exhibited. Sun Valley will have their problems this year but their QB looked very strong with a quick release and an ability to throw bullets. If the receivers can run their routes SV may become a potent force before the end of the season.
As good as it feels to start the season 1-0 it all has to be forgotten. The Panthers were back at practice on Labor Day getting ready for the BIG showdown Friday night.
The Green Raiders will come into this week's game as defending Central League Champs and they are hungry to repeat as champs. They didn't get a chance to play last week but you can bet that their entire coaching staff and most of their players were at George L. King Field this past Friday night. However, what they saw is bound to be difficult to work against. Four running backs racked up substantial yardage with Frasier and Ballard going over 100 yards each (Frasier on only 4 touches). They saw a Panther defense hold their opponent to only 86 yards.
You can be sure Ridley will not be shaking in their boots. Like Strath Haven the Raiders always think they can win and are well coached no matter how many returning starters they have. After two terrific seasons the Raiders will not go quietly into the night.
Expect both teams to come out hard and strong. Ridley believes they have speed and we know the Panthers have LOTS of speed so look for the Panther offensive line to try to dominate the line of scrimmage while the Ridley linebackers will try to anticipate the speed and get to the holes first.
This will be a war! It's sure to attract a standing room only crowd so get there early. Parking may be limited so check here for updates.
