The Fifty Yard Line - Sun Valley Scrimmage Analysis

At 10:00 AM this morning over at Sun Valley High School the 2011 Strath Haven Panthers took the field in their first event of the new season.

Scrimmages are sometimes more interesting based on what doesn't happen as to opposed to what does. Varsity got off to a slow start on offense. Plays were a little sluggish on this warm humid morning but the ball handling was clean with no fumbles or bad snaps.

Defense looked solid in its first effort.

The second string came in and started to ramp things up. Play got much more intense with some pushing and shoving as the Panther offense drove nicely down the field. The second squad defense played very strong in holding the Sun Valley offense to few yards.

The Varsity squad came back on the field and things definitely became more intense. The caliber of play was also brought up a level as did the chatter from the sidelines and comments in the huddle.

The play calling was pretty basic as the Panthers found their "sea legs" during this scrimmage.

Sun Valley has replace their coaches this year and are in the process of rebuilding. The Vanguards showed good discipline on both sides of the ball but need to consolidate their blocking efforts.

The Panthers defense held together well during the entire scrimmage with the Varsity Sun Valley players never really threatening. Offense showed some nice passing ability and some surprising speed.

This year the Panther 'O' line and 'D' line have some pretty big boys. That could bode well for Haven as those lines gel into a cohesive wall on both sides of the ball.

Next and last scrimmage is against Bishop McDevitt this coming Friday night at George L. King Field. Start time is 6:30 PM.
