Mekhi Hill has lived in Philadelphia, South Jersey, Jamaica, Memphis and Hawaii, so he knows how to soak in a variety of traditions. It would be no different, then, when he landed two years ago in the football program at Strath Haven High.

“It sinks in,” the Panthers’ strong safety and running back was saying, after a summertime workout at George L. King Field. “I know the type of football history this school had. I love the game of football. I know the legacy the guys before me had left. And I just want to keep it going.”

Hill tried, as did others, to re-create success last season, but too many injuries helped drive the Panthers to a 2-9 record, 1-7 in the Central League. Yet an experienced offense, a committed defense and the buzz in the weight room through the offseason hinted strongly at improvement.
