Time was right for Wood and Ridley

Dave Wood waited for the right moment to step back into coaching football.

When the Ridley job opened, he saw an opportunity that was too good to ignore. He threw his hat in the ring. The administration at Ridley School District was convinced he would be the leading man, a candidate whose resume includes nearly 25 years of coaching at the collegiate level.

With the hiring of Wood, Ridley may have hit the jackpot.

Last Monday, when Wood received the call that it was official, he was watching his freshman son play ice hockey. He has two boys at Garnet Valley, another in sixth grade and a daughter in third.

A year removed from his assistant position at the University of Pennsylvania, Wood could exhale. About an hour after getting the good news, he talked openly for nearly 45 minutes about his journey to Ridley, why he left Penn and what attracted him to the Football High of Delaware County.
